Are Boot Camps the answer for all youth?

Boot camps are definitely not the answer for children. If a child has suicidal issues, is severely depressed, self mutilating, or has a serious psychiatric diagnosis they would be better served in a therapeutic boarding school, residential treatment center, or in some cases even a psychiatric hospital.

There are hundreds of websites on the internet today that will come up when you enter the term Boot Camp or Boot Camps for troubled teens. This may be a little confusing because there are only a few military-style boot camps that will take defiant, out of control youth. Most of what are categorized as "traditional military schools" are designed for youth that are desirous of a better education or a career in the military. What most people are looking for when they enter the search term "teen boot camps" is what they see featured on television. They want a drill sergeant that will get in their cild's face and demand respect. This being said there are some boarding schools that have similar results to the in your face boot camps mentioned. These boarding schools are highly structured and place the teen in a position of accountability for their actions. With the results accomplished being close many parents will settle for a structured boarding school even though what they might have wanted was a boot camp or military style school.
