Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome There have been studies on rats surrounding post traumatic stress syndrome. It is believed that like post traumatic stress disorder post traumatic stress syndrome is created by a lack of serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical that the body produces to send a signal letting the body know that everything is all right. It is also believed that this signal has a lot to do with the medial prefrontal cortex. Some anti depressant types of medication are helpful with both post traumatic stress syndrome and post traumatic stress disorders. The medications are designed to replace increase the serotonin the body is lacking. For some people the stress leaves them feeling like they have lost control and that everything is going wrong.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD can be a very difficult problem to deal with. This anxiety disorder may come as a result of a traumatic or dangerous event that a person has lived through or witnessed. Everyone has a natural fear of things that are dangerous. The problem comes after the flight or fight response no longer needed. The person that suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder may still feel fear even after the dangerous situation is over. There is a closely related stress problem that is referred to as post traumatic stress syndrome.

Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome Help

The good news is there is help for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. There are several medications that have proven to be effective in helping reduce the helpless feelings associated with both types of illnesses. For many people help can come in the form of psychotherapy or talking about their feelings. For others the best help comes from prescription medications. Some people may need a combination of medications and psychotherapy. The most important thing to remember is that there is help. If you or a loved one is suffering from either post traumatic stress syndrome or post traumatic stress disorder seek professional help. There is no need for a person to suffer when help is available. Since every person is unique doctors may need to try several types of drugs and therapy to find the most effective option.

Post Traumatic Stress Untreated

When the events causing the trauma are not taken care of or changed there is danger that other problems may occur. In some cases PTSD left untreated may result in depression, substance abuse, panic disorder, possibly even suicidal thoughts and ideations. Some people may need to evaluate the situation that is creating the stress. For example if a marriage is abusive marriage counseling should be sought. The person being abused in the relationship may even need to leave the abusive spouse to keep from developing a serious disorder.
