Single Parenting

Single parenting has got to be one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Families with two parents struggle to juggle all of the activities and events that happen with their children. For one parent to try to manage everything is nearly impossible. Many single parents work full time or full time and a half just to pay the bills. This compounds the difficulty of trying to meet the needs of children and work. It is not impossible for a single parent to make everything work, just very difficult. The daunting task of single parenting is easier when both parents can work together and share some of the responsibilities.

Single Parenting and Troubled Teens

In many cases the lack of parental support and involvement creates the perfect situation to create a troubled teen. With only one parent in the home the children can be left to manage for themselves the best they can. When the single parent is working, they can be out of the home much of the time. They are daily trying to balance their employment, their children, and any other tasks around the home they need to perform. The friends of the teens soon realize that there is little supervision in the singe parent home. This home can then become the hang out for other unsupervised teens.

Single Parenting and Education

As mentioned previously two parents struggle to manage a family and careers. The single parent in most cases rarely has time to just sit and visit with their children. Many also struggle following their children’s academic progress and may miss signs of academic failure that may be key indicators that something bigger is brewing. One of the first areas teens let go when they begin down a negative path are education related. They may begin skipping school, or missing assignments, leaving athletic passions etc. It may sound like a small thing but if a teen has always had good grades and is starting to let them go, something has changed. It may not be anything serious, but it is definitely worth looking into.
