Teens and driving are difficult for many people to say in the same sentence. It is truly scary when a teen reaches the age where they can begin driving. Most high schools offer a driver's education course teaching the teen driving skills necessary to operate a vehicle. This does not ease the stress associated with the event for many parents. There are also teen driving schools if the teen doesn't want to take the course in school. The teen driving school can be an accelerated way for the teen to get through the training course so they can begin driving sooner.

Teen Driver's Insurance

When a teen begins driving the family insurance premium is definitely going to go up. There are companies that offer discounts if the teen never gets any tickets. There are also teen driver discounts given by some insurance companies if the teen has good grades. If a teen gets in an accident or is caught drunk driving many insurance companies will raise the monthly premium to cover the loss or the potential loss. Some teen's driving records become so bad the family is required to pay exorbitant rates to allow the teen to continue driving. This problem may prevent the teen from driving if the insurance gets too high for the family to afford. It is important that teen driver's never drive when they are not insured as this is illegal in most states.

Teen Driving and Texting

There has been a lot of publicity recently surrounding a video that portrayed a teenage girl driving a vehicle while texting. The teen driver ends up in an automobile accident hurting her friends and destroying the car. The message while graphic sends a message regarding the dangers of texting while driving. Many teens believe they are good drivers and capable of multi tasking while they drive when in reality they are lucky to keep the car between the lines on the road. It is not uncommon to see teens trying to do many various things while the drive. The truth is, teen driving is serious and the entire experience should be treated with respect. The automobile can be a dangerous weapon that can easily destroy the lives of those in its path.

Teen Driving and Cell Phones

It is rare to see a teen driving without a cell phone up to their ear. Many teens are constantly talking or texting. For a relatively new driver like teens are, it is important for them to keep their eyes on the road. Teen drivers should power off their cell phones while driving so they are not tempted to talk while they drive. There have been many studies done that indicate that talking on the phone while driving impairs the drivers ability to drive. Teen drivers should focus all of their attention on driving and wait until they have arrived at their destination to power up their phones.
