Teens and Drunk Driving
When of the main reasons teens drive drunk is due to peer pressure. Teens are faced with bad choices each and every day. If you look at teen drunk driving statistics you'll probably be shocked. Almost 13% of car crashes had to do with a drunk driver.
The most shocking thing about this is almost half were teens! If you think about it, teens are inexperienced drivers as it is. But adding a stimulus like alcohol only makes it that much worse. When teens drive by themselves they are more cautious as opposed to driving with a group of friends encouraging them to drive faster with the music louder.
A solution we can do as parents is talk to our teens. However, talking is not enough. We must lead by example and not get behind the wheel even if we have had one beer. Most teens think buzzed driving isn't drunk driving. Also, make sure you do the simple things you may overlook.
One example may be hiding or locking your own alcohol so that your kids and teens cannot access it. If you suspect your teen is taking alcohol or drugs at that matter, purchase a home drug test and find out.
The government and police have ramped up their duties when trying to stop teenage drunk driving. They have created many programs such as MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, educational videos and seminars. But even with their resources and help fatalities are inevitable. Do the best you can as a parent by teaching, and showing your teen that drunk driving is dangerous.
