Disciplining A Teen With Bad Grades - School Troubles
One of the most important and needed things for a teen to get is a good education. If you think back to when you were a teenager good grades probably wasn't the first thing on your mind. Usually people will regret not getting good grades because they don't get a scholarship to a good university after high school is completed. As parents we need to constantly remind our kids to do their best in school so they will have more college options in the future.
If your troubled teen is struggling in school and getting bad grades you need to make sure you discipline them so they don't continue on a negative track. We have compiled a list of things you can try when teaching your child the importance of school.
- The first thing you should do is take away their favorite things such as their cell phone or prohibit their use on the computer.
- If they are on the basketball team or on the cheerleading squad, make them stop until the grades rise. Usually the teachers will agree and help you with this.
- Have an older sibling or send them to an after school program that will help them study.
- One of the most effective methods of disciplining is to not allow them to hang out with friends or go to dances. This will get their attention and they will try hard to get this privilege back.
- Try to write up a parent teen contract designed to help the teen avoid future bad grades.
If your teen is continues to do poorly in school you may want to look at the core problems. Usually the teen has issues that are deeper than bad grades.
