Teen Safety At A High School Party
One of the things teens do on weekends is attend parties that will most definitely have alcohol and other drugs. Sometimes these high school parties are not monitored by adults. One of the first things you should do as a parent is find out where the party is being held and if other adults will be present. However, just because the parents are gone doesn't mean the party will turn into a dangerous situation.
Below is a list of things you should educate your teen when they will attend parties at high school.
- Do not accept drinks from anyone and especially strangers. Always make sure your drink is in your hand at all times. Date rape is the most common danger at almost all parties. Date rape drug is odorless and can dissolve instantly in any form of drinks.
- Encourage your teenage son or daughter to not drink alcohol until the age of 21. If the do choose to drink express the dangers of drinking and driving. Also, not to get into a car with someone who is drunk.
- Have your teen text or call you 1-3 times during the party to make sure they are safe.
- Let them know that you will be up until they get home. Also be available just in case your teen needs you to come pick them up at any time.
- Never let your teen attend a high school party alone. Make sure they will go with a group of people. This will minimize predators who look for single girls and boys to target.
It's unrealistic that we would be able to monitor every move our teen kids make. If you sit down and express the dangers at parties they will be better prepared when they attend one. If you have a defiant or troubled teen that does not listen to you, you may want to send them to a specialized private boarding school designed to help them turn their lives around and get back on the right track.
