Teen Depression Medications
In these days it seems more and more teens are taking medications in order to deal with mild all the way to extreme depression. If you have never been affected by depression then you may never know how debilitating the mental disorder can be. Others think that by taking medications or seeing a counselor the depression will disappear forever. The fact is that most depression suffers will have this for the rest of their lives. The good news is, medications have been proven to help people.
Teenage depression can start at any age. Some teens have reported starting to feel down when puberty hits. This makes sense because the body goes through numerous changes when a young pre-teen starts puberty. The teen will start to have feelings of hopelessness and will keep to themselves and stay in their rooms. Another misconception is that anti depressant drugs will cure a teen of depression. Other teens have noticed an increase in their anxiety and depression when taking certain medications. The only sure way to get an accurate diagnosis is to schedule a meeting with a doctor to discuss medications that can help your teen.
Below is a list of different anti-depressant medications:
- Paroxetine AKA Paxil
- Sertraline AKA Zoloft
- Fluoxetine AKA Prozac
We do not recommend that your teen take any of these drugs unless you see a qualified doctor first. See more detailed information here.
Some research and scientists are starting to look at alternative medications or therapies when it comes to teenage depression. Some doctors have teens change their diets or start an exercise program that will help them deal with their emotions. If you are a parent of a teen with depression you may want to talk to them in order to understand what your teen may be going through. If you have a friend or a certain relative has depression, it may be a good idea to have this person share information that has worked for them and other positive experiences that could benefit your child.
