At-Risk Teens With Under-Developed Brains
More and more research is being done to figure out if troubled teens are mis-behaving due to the fact that their brains are not developing as fast as other teens their ages. The American Journal of Psychiatry has come to the conclusion that teenagers who show signs of defiance have less brain function. In other words teens with anger or fighting in school have less developed areas of the brain that have to do with emotion.
Other researchers are stating that the main reason for troubled teens is the fact that some parents have poor parenting skills and do not do a good job when it comes to raising teens. This may make more sense because some of the best parents will still have out of control teens. Professor Goodyer of Cambridge says that there is not enough evidence to definitively say that a majority of troubled teens has under developed brains. One reason a teen may show antisocial behavior is because he has not learned the proper way to communicate with his or her peers.
Aggressive children with conduct disorder most likely will have problems when they begin puberty and grow to become troubled teens. One thing you can do as a parent to help your troubled teen or child is learn patience and not give up. The younger the child is the easier it will be to using positive parenting methods that will help the growing child become a happy teenager. If you need help with your teen you may want to ship them to a military school designed to provide give a troubled teen the structured environment they need in order to become better adults.
Wether or not brain size causes bad behavior, the most important action we can show to our children and teens is love. The main cause of troubled teen violence and bad behavior is due to parents who are either not there or don't show enough love and support to their teenagers.
