Teen Alcohol Abuse Causes Health Risks
Some studies and surveys have come to the conclusion that the most widely used stimulant amongst teens is alcohol. This may not be shocking due to the fact of how easy it is for teens to acquire the drug. Some teens take it straight from their parents liquor cabinets and others have a older brother or sister go and buy it for them. Some claim that over half of high school students drink once every week.
Teenagers and college students are binge drinkers. In other words, they drink a large amount of alcohol in a short period of time. Most of this is known as partying. There have been reports of teens who end up in the hospital due to to much alcohol in their systems. Their bodies were unable to metabolize the amount the were ingesting.
Below is a list of health concerns that affect teens.
- Some teens have a hard time studying and staying awake in school.
- Memory loss is common in young drinkers.
- Along with drinking it's highly likely teens will abuse other drugs.
- The younger the drinker, the more likely they will have problems later on in life.
The bill written by democrats goes into detail of how we can tax certain foods like candy and ice cream. Items such as fruits and vegetables will not be taxed. The snack food industry has claimed that bureaucrats are not looking hard enough at what they are actually taxing. Some potato chips have a high grease amount but also has large quantities of potassium and vitamin C. Also, Michelle Obama has pushed Lets Move campaign designed to stop childhood obesity.
One of primary things we can do as parents is talk to our kids at an early age. Teach them that drinking in moderation is okay as long as it's not abused. Teach them the importance of waiting until they 21 to start drinking. Teens that drink are more at risk to abuse marijuana. When alcohol is abused the whole family will eventually suffer.
More and more fighting in the home is usually accompanied when a teen feels the need to get high. Teens will become defiant and will not only break the rules at home but also risk getting put in jail due to the need of the substance.
