What To Do If Your Teen Smokes Pot
If you were to go around to every high school in America, you will most likely find a group of high school teenagers who have or who do smoke marijuana. Most of these teens are not hard core drug addicts but are looking for a good time with their friends. Marijuana is addictive and is known as the gateway drug. In other words some teens who smoke weed will look for other drugs such as meth or heroin, to get a bigger and better high. Some teens also get addicted to marijuana and they go through withdrawals without it.
You have to realize that most teens who smoke pot are good kids. Some may not look like your average teen who breaks the law or who skips school. Talking to your teen about future dangers and the future negative consequences of smoking weed is the most important idea you can impress on your teen. If you suspect your teen is using marijuana there are some things you need to do before you take further action. We have compiled a list of things you can do.
- Call them to your room or the kitchen and with love ask them sincerely if they are smoking weed. Express your reasons and concerns and then wait for a response.
- A large majority of teenagers smoke pot because their friends are doing it. Invite your teens' friends over and get to know them. You can usually tell if your teen is hanging around with the wrong crowd.
- Look for the obvious reasons like red glassy eyes. The smell probably will be the most easy thing to recognize. Don't snoop around their room and dig through their drawers. Do casually look around if you are dropping something of like laundry.
- Talking to your child and finding out the root cause of smoking pot is the hardest thing to do. Express that you love them but that smoking weed will not be acceptable when they are under your roof. Also, tell them that, if they have younger siblings, that they are constantly watching what they are doing wether they want to believe that or not.
