Religion & Spirituality May Stop Teen Violence & Suicide
Each year more and more teens are committing suicide. Some think that there are numerous reasons why a teen may commit suicide. Bullying, depression, drugs etc. There is not one reason why, but the list gets bigger and bigger.
The reason why the shootings at Columbine took place was because the teens that committed the shootings were bullied. On a recent episode of A&E's intervention, a guy felt so guilty for bullying the Columbine shooters he turned to drugs to cope.
As a young teen positive role models are few and far between. Lady GaGa or Snoop Dog are thrown in front of our kids as people to look up to. Teens need people that will teach them integrity and other quality traits they can learn in order to become better citizens. One of the main reasons a teen may act in violence is the fact that they may not feel love at home.
Studies and surveys have been conducted and for most young people's deaths, suicide was in the top 3 reasons why they died. Other studies show that almost 60% of teens have felt sadness and depression at least one time during the week.
Religion and spirituality come in many forms for different people. Some people may attend the Catholic church where others may meditate to feel closer to a higher being. Webmd.com has come to the conclusion that teens who have some sort of religion or who try to understand spirituality are less likely to commit suicide. The reason is the fact that they feel more love for themselves and others.
